new 870 are shite. get a used old one that is in good condition from.the 80s

While some say there is truth to this statement, I bought an 870 this summer and it has been fine. I will say the finish on it isn't the best, but it also only set me back about $360 brand new. I can't complain.

Absolutely. New to the board so I'm not sure the protocol. Is there a private msg function?

Thanks for the input... Keep it coming.

My favorite nice gun that's a shooter...

Benelli Montefeltro. Shouldn't run but around a grand.

Owning this talked me into getting a Super Black Eagle II. I like it too, but it's composite, whereas the Montefeltro is a nice walnut wood.

Had you been a couple of months earlier, you could have got one of CSMC Inverness for the promo price.

CSMC has a ton of guns they build and they also sell used guns. Be careful of sticker shock on some of the guns...

I have a 20 gauge Rem 1100 engraved Premier and I'll throw in a Winchester limited edition engraved Conservation #1677/2000 for $2400.

I say buy something like Wick suggested with the Beretta. Very nice guns and can be used for casual sport shooting, and some upland hunting to name a few. I'd love to have one for myself.

He has plenty of time to look for a well kept used gun...

The Benelli Montefeltro Silver looks nice.

I'm going to keep looking around for a better used gun as well. I've never owned a new shotgun - all of mine have been passed down from my father and grandfather.

You may want to wait on a hunting/shooting gun until he's of the age to shoot. The technology has changed a lot in the past 15 years and I would imagine it will continue to do so.

If you are gonna go with an O/U or a antique type, fire away.

...Make sure the poppa is ok with you giving him his first gun (instead of him)
