reading all these stories and how awesome everyones gear is and still these fish get off? WTF? That's pretty fricking stupid. Get a bigger damn rod and reel to ensure they don't get spooled.

Why because i don't think it's cool to have all of the fricking line come off of a reel that costs over a grand from a fish you are supposed to be targeting? Now i can understand getting spooled by a boat propeller or maybe a whale but if you people are getting spooled by tuna,it would seem like you are the idiots by not having the correct gear out there. No?

The story of a guy having 3 reels spooled at once seems odd. They definitely screwed something up there, or they just got taken by another boats prop and didn't realize it.

A 30 or 50 is the correct gear for yellowfin tuna just look at all the charter boats out there sometimes there's just nothing you can do with the fish

There's ways to avoid it but sometimes you just get dumped

not really. You are fishing for YFT that rarely exceed 200 lbs and marlin that mostly stay on top and can be chased down.

You are not fishing for BFT or dolphins. When one hits, you hope the drag will slow them down and you have a chance to recover the fish, but if you tighten down the drag, you can certainly lose the fish. I'd rather wait till it is almost spooled to see if he will slow down, but it happens so fast, you just can't do anything about it.

If you've experienced this, you know what I'm talking about. If not, then STFU, especially you two MJ and Bourg.

If it spools a 130 there isn't anything you can do as that is about the largest reel you can buy short of an electric winch

If you hook a fish that is going to spool an 80 or 130 there isn't a damn thing you can do about it short of having a 12,000lb warn on board.
