Takedown Barrel
The takedown barrel is removed from the upper receiver by simply moving the slider bar towards the breech, rotating the barrel and pulling it free - no tools required. Installation is simpler yet - just slide the barrel into the upper and twist until it locks. The takedown mechanism provides a repeatable point of impact.

MSR shooters that desire a larger cartridge will be excited to find that a replaceable barrel kit chambered in 300 AAC Blackout is available on ShopRuger.com. This range-ready barrel's headspace is set at the factory and comes complete with a metal flip-up elevation & windage adjustable front sight and two, 30-round metal magazines marked with "300 AAC BLACKOUT" to ensure easy differentiation.

Dude Ruger has been absolutely killing it lately. This is very awesome.

And the fact that they are smart enough to start selling a 300blk kit at the same time puts Bushmaster to shame with the shitty ACR rollout. It wouldn't surprise me if they do a 6.8 and 6.5 in the future as well.

EDIT: The one disadvantage I could see is a shift in the point of impact though. I guess if you get a sight with BDC it wouldn't be a huge deal though.

I already do this with a Noveske lower. I swap my 5.56 and 300BLK Wilson Combat uppers all the time with the pull of two pins.

Good marketing Ruger. Good luck.

It's an answer to a question that wasn't asked.

Yes, but you need a set of optics for each upper assembly.

With the Ruger setup, you could theoretically mount a scope or red dot once, and just swap barrels.

Do you know if it will it come in different colors like the 10/22 takedown did?

As much as I like Ruger - and my 10/22 Takedown - I don't see it with this platform. Maybe if I saw it in person and the final package dimensions and gave it a little heft, but taking the barrel down - in this case, only saves you a few inches in length - whereas, the 10/22 is roughly 2/3 the length, and much more compact that the fully assembled.

With a folding stock and AR receiver/hanguard assembly, I'd bet that the reduction in length is not worth the packing. Better off getting a soft bag just the right size or even a hard case, custom fitted for the carbine and accessories.

What am I missing?

LMT has had theirs available for years now, even in a large frame version.

MWS and MRP.

But doesn't that one require a torque wrench?

Yes, but if you are carrying another barrel does it matter? The torque wrench is no bigger than a screw driver.

Not saying its better or worse, just that this is not new or anything. I think its a pretty cool idea actually, been tempted by the LMT versions several times. If this is half the cost, itll be really tempting. The $600+ barrels are what really kill the LMT system for me. Ill just build another upper for $600+ and use a better quality barrel.

Ruger has been hitting some homeruns lately, this just doesnt seem to have been an issue.

Ill be really impressed if you can remove/reinstall the barrel and have zero shift.

ETA: For them to actually have another caliber barrel available for sale already, earns them quadruple props. Ask the people that bought into the Barrett MRAD and waited years for barrels, and lets not bring up the Bushmaster ACR and all their promises. Kudos to you Ruger.

If they are similar designs, I think you nailed it here. The quality may not be up to LMT standards but I'm sure it's close and at that cheap of a price it seems worth it to me.

100% agree. After owning an ACR I can see companies that care about customers and companies that don't. Bushmaster isn't one of those companies but Ruger damn sure is.
