My CSB fish story in Mandeville

took my kids out to park by yacht club friday afternoon, they got that concrete wall that goes out maybe 100 yards along chanel, may be about 2 ft wide at most. We walked out there, mid way a huge freaking fish crashed the wall literally by our feet on channel side. Couldn't think of what it was at the moment, new it wasn't a gar etc.
Did some googling and it was a Jack Crevalle that was crashing bait fish along wall. Found a nola article talking about the fish doing the exact same thing on rock walls in the lake.
It had to be about 30" long minimum. May bring my son back with his snoopy pole and i'll just strap him to the concrete.

Jack spooled my dad last summer on some flats with a 4000 level spinner and 20 lb braid so 150 yards or so. He didn't have the trolling motor down, by the time he got it down and going he gone. You need some solid gear to mess with them once they are 15+ lbs.

throw a noisy topwater into the main channel (east of the breakwater you were on). make a lot of noise with it, you've got a good chance of catching a jack there. if you throw to the west (towards the sunset) the water gets too shallow real quick.
Good luck!
Good luck!

in all seriousness, you don't want a small kid to try and frick around with a jack off a concrete wall with rocks below. pound for pound they are up there with AJ's and YFT when it comes to fighting

Yep, you can see them cruising for mullet between the jetties all down the mandeville lake front. They'll come right up to the sea wall and just cruise it. Big bastards too.

Head out to the end of lake road in Lacombe. Grab yourself a heavy surf rod and rod, grab some mullet at the town store right before the turn and hold on. Caught lot of jacks and reds with the occasional black tip.

On the east side of the breaker from a boat cast back into the channel and you'll catch reds and trout...
