Welp, i bought a boat. Not the one i planned on, i actually came across something exactly what i wanted for a great price. Picked up a welded aluminum 14' flat bottom w 2012 9.8hp 4 stroke tohatsu motor and galvanized trailer. The boat already has three mounts for swivel seats, one the back and front benches, and one in the middle (boat is open in the middle). Came with trolling motor, rod holders, and a new wood floor with styrofoam installed underneath and carpetting on both benches and new floor. Boat and motor (inside and out) look damn near brand new and were shop kept. We ran the motor a while in a barrel and checked compression. All flawless. Im so fricking pumped that i found this package. Its damn near exactly what i wanted. Heres to adding another addiction to my golf, hunting, and sports addictions

Throw some pics up if you can.

For a front deck, use aluminum angle and rivets with aluminum sheet. Tons of examples on tinboats.

Careful with wood being used, treated wood has copper in it which can react and rot aluminum over time.

Its one of those 1 in 10 type deals.

Not every piece of aluminum is rotten that has had treated wood touching it.

I think its one of those things that takes a looong time of a piece of treated ply resting on the same spot.

I wouldnt let it deter your purchase if it has treated wood on the benches or something like that. Now if a cat replaced a wooden transom with treated ply 10 years ago, thats a different story.

Nah, its the floor of the boat. Ill peel a corner of carpet up tomorow to see if its treated or not treated. Im confident this man knew what he was doing. After researching a little online, it seems that this is pretty common knowledge.

Bingo. Treated wood causes galvanic corrosion, but it's not gonna make it melt over night. Salt water accelerates the process, but the wood has to sit on the aluminum for a good while to see any real damage.

I just checked, looks like the wood is all painted. Doubt he woulda painted it if it was treated, huh?

Ill give him a shout tomorrow and ask what he made the floor out of.

I know exactly which one you bought. That motor alone was worth the price he was selling it for. I seriously considered buying it myself. And I didn't need it.

Congrats!

I and many people i spoke with after the purchase completely agree with you.

I talked to the man this morning about the wood floor. He didnt build it. The man he bought it from built it. The man i bought it from removed it, added styrofoam, and reinstalled the floor. He said there was absolutely no sign of damage what so ever. He did say that he wasnt sure if it was treated or not.
Im not too concerned right now. Ill probably pull it up later on and check the wood, and replace it if its treated. Wont be hard considering i can use the existing as a pattern.

For now, that bitch is going fishing

Also, i got pics but cant post. One of you want to post em for me i can email em to you.
