I'd stick with mudbuddy or gator-tail.

They both seem to perform better in the mud than the pro-drive.

If u haven't seen the new mudbuddy's u r missing out. They are bad arse. No longer belt driven and have combined with mercury so that everything is marine grade components now

I've looked at ProDrive for a while, but I don't care for the Auto Full Reverse set up they have.

There's a lot of crap with all the hoses and fluid resevoirs. Not a good set up IMO.

Does the new mudbuddy have reverse? If not I won't even look at it.

I prefer Gatortails instant reverse over waiting on Pro Drives full reverse.

They had one at the sportsman show in Lafayette this weekend but I was out of town I heard it was bad arse.

New Mud Buddy

I also like the fact that there is no electric clucth like all other mudmotors with neutral and reverse. And the Mercury trim is far superior to what the competition has.

The new Mud Buddys with the instant reverse are bad arse. That's what I will be getting.

I like the 18 hp. Are these motors reliable? I want to put an 18 hp on a 15' bateau.

NOt sure about the new Mud buddies but the previous model surface drives were AWFUL. We went through 4 hyper drives at the camp in the last five years and I will likely never buy another.

Gator tail IMO is the correct answer, of course this is one of those debates with no correct answer

To fly in the face of my last post I LOVE my Mud Buddy long tail, I haven't seen a new GD long tail in some time. However they used to use bushings instead of bearings, and there were another few perks for MB, however they revamped the design about 12 years ago to fix this, but I think they still use bearings. My MB is about 20 years old and it's still running like a champ.

Questions to ask.

How reliable will the first generation Sport V be?
Mudbuddy usually has shitty customer service.

If they prove to be reliable, they will be back in the game. At least PD will be above GD.

This! My brother bought one of the first new ones. I haven't been in his boat yet, but he told me it's a beast!
