I recently got out the military and still have my military ID. It's currently expired. Can I still use that to hunt Mississippi as a resident. Anyone who has hunted while active duty knows the lines for resident aren't strict for military personnel since we move so often. All I used to have to do was show game warden leave papers and I didn't even need a hunting license. Just wondering if I can still exploit this loophole or am I gonna have to pay 170$ for all the permits I need? Tia

I wouldn't try it. They actually started a small fraudulent license division a couple years. All they do is investigate stuff like that.

Since you would have to present your military ID if you were stopped I wouldn't try it. He may or may not look at the expiration date but I don't think it would be worth it. Its the same as having an expired license, pretty much useless.
I still have my expired military ID but never use it anymore.

agreed...apparently, MS had a hell of a lot of folks who were skirting the out of state license requirements and decided to crack down on it recently.

If mil qualifications exempt you, you would need to show current mil quals... I would say it's a no-go

IMO, it's a rip-off by Mississippi to charge as much as they do for an out-of-state license required for those who own property in Mississippi and hunt on our own property. We pay property taxes, buy food, gas, utilities, supplies, eat out, etc. Not much different from permanent residents. You'd think they would want to make us feel more welcome.

I agree. I mostly hunt only on my family property in MS being a LA resident and have to buy a $310 license. This is counter-productive because this makes me shoot almost any legal deer and I worry about driving out with an ice chest with deer(as opposed to not getting a license and taking a chance). I hunt the national forest 1-2 days a season and I guarantee you I will shoot anything that is legal. Screw managmenent when they screw me for $300 license. I would probably think differently if I had more properrty but after a certain $$ amount it becomes more than a hobby and I have to justify the $ spent.

They don't make any adjustments for out-of-state Seniors who might be on fixed income either. I just think the fees are steep for such people who MIGHT bag one or no deer in a given year, and for property owners who are helping the overall herd with managed land. Would prefer to spend the money building ponds and planting food plots.

I've been hunting at my property in Mississippi for 20 years and have never purchased an out of state license in my life. I know if I get caught I would be fricked but I do it anyways.

ive thought about that, friends do it, but dont think its worth it if i got caught. I do have a gate that locks and is the only way in or out....

I just want to shoot some damn hogs! but i only have like 1 day every other week, so i cant justify the 3 or 7 day license, nor a 300 license for the whole year...

I don't buy one every year either although I buy it more than I don't. Not sure what the fine is but if I do get caught I'm pretty sure I'd still be ahead by not buying it those years at $300+.

what about gun confiscation, or removal of hunting privileges?

if its just a fine i'd risk it

Not sure about the gun confiscation but pretty sure you can't hunt for a year.
After a quick search it looks like the fine is no less than $500 and no more than $1000 for first offense and you lose hunting privileges. It also states administration fees will be the amount of the license fee you were caught hunting.
