The vehicle break in thread and now the thread about shooting an intruder has me thinking that I need to illuminate my carport at night. Anyone have a recommendation on good motion sensor lighting.

I'm considering - Sunforce

Not sure of brand, as it came with the house, but the one I have stays on at night all the time in a dim state. If someone approaches, it goes bright.

RAB

Quality wise it won't get much better than RAB. Check out their options. It may be a litter pricier than what you're looking for but they back their products very well.

I recommend them. I am getting a second set soon.

I also have 2 of the RAB Gotcha sensors mounted to LED floodlights. I bought the sensors and lights from Stuart Irby. Each setup cost about $150.00.

I decided to spend the extra $ after eliminating all the cheaply made plastic stuff available at the box stores.

I'm a electrician by trade, those are to big and bulky and they expensive for no reason! Go to Home Depot they have the double headed led motion and photo cell lights for about 20$ they come in white are bronze! I put them up around my home and my parents they are super bright and haven't quit working yet! They have a aluminum housing and they are water proof! Very nice quality lights! Can't remember the name brand tho

I second the ones from Home Depot if you already have power to where you are mounting the lights.

I installed two different sets from HD and neither of them activate consistently with motion. They were considerably more than $20 each.

Maybe a retarded question but did you set the motion switch?

I have dusk to dawn lights around our house. My logic behind purchasing those versus the motion sensor lights is I would rather have my house lit up hoping that causes the thugs to go to the next house.

The biggest problem with them are having to replace bulbs about every two months.

Yes, I did. They are inconsistent. Sometimes work, sometimes not. One rarely comes on. I've walked all around the damn thing on occasion and nothing. Other times . . . on.

I got the cheap Brinks kind from Walmart. As long as you mount it under an eve, and use one of the plastic housings with a seal/gasket to keep moisture out they work fine.

If you don't have power, but still need motion detector lights, I recommend Mr. Beams (Amazon). Fairly bright and battery life is decent. I have one of mine aimed at the base of a tree by my pond, b/c a beaver is eating away at the tree. Since I put the light there, the beaver has left it alone. Now I have to come up with a shooting solution. But the beaver is sneaky and only comes out at night.
