An Ouachita Parish man is facing one count of felony theft after a dog in his care was not returned to its owner.

According to an arrest report for Lester Langley, age 44, OPSO was contacted Saturday about a missing Labrador retriever the owner valued at $25,000.

The victim in the case said he dropped his dog off with Langley, a dog trainer, in July. He said Langley later told him he transported the dog out of state briefly for training but brought him back.

On Sept. 21, Langley contacted the victim and said the dog was dead.

Per the warrant, the victim told Langley he would come over to pick up the dog, and Langley said he had already buried the dog.

"(The victim) stated he told Lester to unbury the dog, and he would be on his way to pick up the dog," the warrant states.

The deputy made a return trip with an investigator, and Langley came outside and said he would show the investigators where the dog was buried.

Langley reportedly indicated a very shallow hole and started to dig scoops from the hole. According to the warrant, he then said, "The dog is missing. This is where I buried it."

Langley said the dog died of unknown causes on Saturday morning and advised he buried the dog with the help of a friend. He denied selling the dog due to its value, the report states.

I did. Anybody got the scoop on this baw and who actually owned this prized deceased Labrador? I asked a buddy of mine in Monroe that knows all the duck hunting players up there and he has no clue.

I know a guy who had a dog “die” in Lester’s care back in 2013ish. This is definitely not the first time this has happened.

Damn, that doesn’t look good for Lester or his business. Heard this at noon from a buddy which is the same story he told me but it wasn’t published yet. Lester is a solid dog trainer, haven’t talked to him in years but this is way out of character for him.

Why not give someone their deceased dog if that’s what happened? This seems fishy.

Had one die in 20 years and it was a seizure. Died at emergency clinic and owner declined to pick up his dog. Owner should’ve been notified within minutes of death not have to call and ask about his animal. This dog was bought from a nationally known trainer to be a hunting dog per my sauce.
Lawyering up isn’t a good pic.

Assuming the dog is still alive - surely the dog is chipped and or tattooed. I even had my last five dolla dog chipped.

Scannable microchip implanted into the dog at his withers. My contact info was tied to the chip I assume in some database somewhere. Supposedly shelters, vets etc are supposed to scan dogs now.

That would not really help you find it though. I asked my vet if he normally scans dogs and he said he hardly ever scans one. If the person looks kind of suspect with a high dollar dog he might scan it but normally does not.

My 36 pound miniature dachshund is chipped. Next to our two boys. He’s our price and joy.

How many is too many dogs to die with same trainer? Let’s say in 10 years.

THat thought crossed my mind. I switched vets from the original guy who chipped my dog and the new lady didn't scan.
