Anybody had good luck with a mechanical broadhead on both? Shot a decent sized boar on Saturday. My mechanical didn't open. The ears that are supposed to deploy the blades broke off. Thankfully I hit spine and he dropped. I was able to stick him with another one to finish the job. 2nd one worked as it was supposed to. I'm shooting a Rocky Mountain Warhead 100gr, which is a Schwacker copy or vice versa.

Second the Rocket Steelheads

I made the switch last year from Grim Reapers, have no complaint so far. A hunting buddy of mine did shoot a 60lb hog this weekend at 26yds with his grim Reapers and got a clean pass through. So take it how you want.

I ignore any talk of "shield" when using Steelheads. Pass through and into the ground behind. I hate using them up on pigs though. So, if I have enough warning, I switch to my one muzzy arrow because I don't care about them, and changing blades is easier.

I wouldn’t go with Grim Reapers, bought some whitetail specials, shot 2 deer with both times not opening all the way. Killed both of them but didn’t penetrate like I’d like.

Super cheap if you're going to be out blasting hogs with them a bunch

I found both arrows with all the blades forward on 1 deer and the entry hole as small as a field point. The 2nd deer, 1 of the 3 opened when i found it on the ground

Grim reapers close after they’ve passed through something almost all the time. Once momentum of the arrow stops, it causes the blades to spring back to the closed position. They talk about it on their website and show it on their YouTube. Skip to the 1:10 mark.

I shoot rage for deer and fixed blade slick trick magnums or magnus stinger buzzcuts for hogs. I have several arrows in my quiver so usually predominately rage and then a couple fixed blade for hogs.

You don’t know til you know lol...I shot my first deer with a reaper, found my broadhead was closed after a full pass through. Deer went 30yds. I thought damn, imagine if that thing had opened!
