If an injury to the animal caused the repeated malformation of the antler on that side, he has the genetic make-up to be awesome. The injury made him inferior not his genetic make-up. Now, the question is was it caused by injury? We will never know, but I wouldn't shoot him unless you have a lot of super bucks (150 inch plus) running around. In a non high-fenced environment you can't control the herd too exactly, so I would try to keep this possibly exceptional deer on my property.

I'd still let him walk another year just to make sure. He's a "the sperm is half full" kinda deer. lol
He's definitely got the genetics to make a wall hanger in there and with that one side being fricked up it's more likely from an injury than genetics.

I agree, except that the OP does not believe that it was broken. I wish and hope that it indeed was broken so that the genetics may live on.

Here is another picture that may show the deformed side a little better. It doesn't appear to be a typical rack that is broken off, but more like a spike would be. Maybe it was broken off directly behind the brow tine and that is why the main beam goes so far up without much curvature? This would be a no-brainer, do not shoot, if I absolutely knew it was caused by a broken antler.

Well, if you didn't kill him he has already dropped that set of antlers so I guess we will be able to find out next year.
