Looking to make the trip over to Texas this summer to find some trout. Anyone know of any charters in Matagorda Bay that specialize in trophy trout. Thanks, OB brethren.

I’d go to East Bay and fish with Brian Fisher of Get The Net Adventures but that is me.

Or Port Aransas and fish with Truly Salty Adventures. Either guide is top notch. Port A has more of a destination feel to it than Crystal Beach though.

go a little further and go to Baffin if you want the biggest trout.

make sure you are in good standing with CCA. would be a shame to be declared ineligible for the truck/boat/trailer if you catch a tagged red

Matagorda is the hottest spot on the coast for big trout, has been for a couple of years. Get with Capt Brett Sweeny LINK if you want to wade and have a chance at a trout of a lifetime. If staying in the boat is more your thing check out Capt Tommy Alexander LINK. Both are great guys and are on them more times than not.

PARTICIPATION: 1. Only members in good standing of the Coastal Conservation Association Texas (CCA TX), the Coastal Conservation Association, or its youth organization, New Tide, and who are at least six (6) years old during 2019 or older, during the entrant’s participation in the Tournament and, who register for the Tournament are eligible and licensed to participate.

there was a guy a few houses down from the camp i used to go to in sargent pre harvey that won the truck/boat/trailer combo a few years ago. i would enter just for the chance if he is taking a true fishing charter in the summer.

Spring or fall for primo trout and you will need to wade. Second 2coolfishing for guides that can put you on big fish.

Check out Run N Gun adventures. They haul in some MONSTER trout from Matagorda bay year round.

I would really appreciate that! Let him know that we would like to specifically target big trout and learn a bit about the area.
I actually have been in conversation with The Run N Gun guys. Super cool group.

If you want to catch big trout in East Matagorda Bay, call Capt. Lee Warmke at Half Breed Guide Service. He stays fairly booked up but sometimes has spots during warmer months. Lee knows more about fishing Matagorda bays than most of the others down there. More than that, he's a damn good guy and easy to spend a day or two with. His bread and butter is wade fishing with artificials but he'll certain accommodate live bait throwers if that's your thing. Even if you end up going with Run N Gun or one of the others, follow Lee and Half Breed Guide Service on Facebook if you want to see some big trout coming out of East this winter... They'll all be caught while wading and slow rolling a Corky.

Much more enjoyable than fishing out of the boat. If you have never wade fished before than you are missing out.

Hijacking my own thread here but is there any special gear I would need for wade fishing other than some waterproof shoes and clothes that can get wet? How does tackle stand up to getting splashed by saltwater all day?

In colder months waders are necessary. April through October regular clothes (bathing suit/pants) are fine. Shoes don't really need to be waterproof but you will wont to make sure they are secure on your feet. Old pair of tennis shoes are fine.

Wadefishing belt or "Do-Net" make wadefishing easier and more enjoyable but not 100% necessary.

Stringer is absolutely necessary unless you go the "Do-Net" route.

the plano waterproof boxes are fairly cheap and keep all the baits from sitting in saltwater. I usually wade with mirrolure plugs and dump them into a filled up sink when I get home. let them sit overnight and put away the next day.

I can personally vouch for Trey Prye and Brett Sweeny.
Trey Prye - Croakers or plastic ( he caught 7# on top water in August on a trip with him)
Brett Sweeny - plastics
Lee Warmke- I haven’t fished with him but have been recommended him

ETA- I wouldn’t trust run and gun guys as far as I could throw them
