Does anyone know if the Mardi Gras Pass is navigable in a 22 ft bay boat?

Yes, but be careful. It's like white water rafting when the river is high. There's also a good bit of trash and debris that's log jammed throughout so just be careful.

If you are talking about the mardi gras pass across from Fort Jackson, near Fort St. Phillip, piece of cake, ran it Friday and Saturday 29' deep at the cut in the rocks, 148' on the river side. No issue at all just make sure you know where center of the cut is, the rocks can be hard to see.

Guess I'm missing something never has bothered me. I always launch at the fort I just run through it. To be honest getting out of the fort the last few years makes me more nervous of course not with a 16' river.

So you are running from Delacroix to the river at Fort Jackson? More than doable but may be easier places to enter the river where are you trying to get to?

Exit the Empire Jetty and head west to you hit Grand Isle. If you don't know the inside I wouldn't recommend running it.

Nothing to it, you would ideally follow the Empire waterway from Empire to the Empire Jetties, however its not really marked anymore but still there. Assuming you have a decent GPS/chartplotter come through the locks at Empire at the river then exit through the locks on the marsh side, run to the rocks on your chartplotter, if you get out of the waterway there will be oyster poles to slalom through but it's pretty deep the whole way especially in summer with a summer tide being higher. I don't worry about hitting anything over there anymore I just run and avoid the oyster poles which can be a PIA.

Are there two Mardi Gras passes? I'm only familiar with the one that is a few miles downriver from E.Point a la Hache.

That is where it gets confusing.... Long before Mardi Gras "cut" east of pointe a la Hache a cut in the river formed there was Mardi Gras pass across from fort Jackson several miles downriver of Mardi Gras "cut".

I can't speak of the history of the new cut east of pointe a la Hache as I don't go there that often but the other Mardi Gras pass has existed since I ca remember easily 35 years. That's why i first asked which one the OP was talking about.

The new cut is a wash out that use to be a small spillway on the road headed back to the Sundowner energy facility. Comes out a couple miles south of Beshels.

You would do just as well trailering your boat all the way to Grand Isle if that's what you have in mind. I have to imagine running from Delacroix to Grand Isle would be at least a 2.5hr boat ride on a good day.

I could trailer it, but if I boat there I get an extra day of fishing.

My original question was about the Mardi Gras cut just south of Pointe a la Hache. Is that cut navigable?
