Kids that do not grow up around guns turn into adults that don't grow up around guns. They tend to be scared instead of guns instead of respecting them. A little training in PE would go a long way to reducing accidents...

Gun safety needs to be taught in high schools. Not necessarily how to shoot, but how to hold guns, how to check and see if they are loaded how to check safeties...
I took both hunters safety and boaters safety in high school, it was the first few weeks of my Industrial Maintenance class. It was too hot in the shop to get us in there welding in August so they did that first

We had firearm safety in 8th grade, and even shot BB guns in the locker room. That was part of Hunter Safety, which was part of the gym class. Everyone had it. I doubt they do that anymore.

I bet that doesn't happen in the cities, though I might be wrong...

Probably not. This class was in a separate building where they have a bunch of technical classes, ptec, industrial maintenance, cooking, some kind of woodworking class. Students from both high schools in the parish could go. I wanted to learn to weld so I took industrial maintence. Helped a ton when I worked in a plant a little while. I at least knew what all the tools and rigging equipment were and osha regs

I am talking a class where kids can learn and handle multiple types of handguns, long guns etc and demonstrate how to identify the safety, check it, remove the magazine and clear the chamber...

After we finished the class part of hunters safety we went to the parish shooting range with a couple officers there for one class period and they taught us gun safety and demonstrated with a few different firearms. Then we shot skeet with a sweet arse O/U. and that was it.

I still don't consider DeRidder much of a city.

I was there today, it is certainly more than it used to be. Much better than Ferriday...

I'm sorry. I moved out in '99, but haven't been back in about 10 years.

hard to believe no one has mentioned his booger picker being on the trigger as the reason for the accident

Well, it's hard for him to keep track of where his booger picker is with his head up his arse. Rectal cranial inversion is an epidemic that has been sweeping the nation for decades.
