Make This Trade? AR Related

Been in the market for an AR-15, but I'll be honest, I don't know much of shite compared to some of you.
Anyhow, my father in law is proposing a trade for his Ruger M77 30-06 and his Stag-15 5.56 with 6x24 Scope and 1/8 Bull Barrel...for my Winchester Model 70 .270 +
$800.
I ask the question because I don't know how the Stag lines up with other AR's. And like I said, I've been in the market, and willing to pay about & $1,000 for base model.
What ye? Do the deal? Pics of the AR available, if the board requests, but I'll have to text them to someone to post for me, because my signal is spotty, and having trouble uploading pics.

If you're a .270 guy, I definitely wouldn't trade the Winchester for the Ruger (although I like both, I would lean Winchester, specifically 70 in this situation, but it is a subjective brand thing).
What are you going to be doing with the AR?
I would take your $800 and get starter AR - Ruger AR556 or M&P Sport are good examples at about $600 or so.
By the time you buy a couple of mags and some ammo, you'll be right about $800 out the door.
Unless the trade makes sense for you on the bolt gun, alone - I don't know how much you value the scope, so I can't speak to that.

Sorry, yes..I did mean a 1-6x24.
You work at Bowie...don't you...? Was hoping you'd be chiming in. Do y'all sell the M&P15?
And thank y'all for the input...really appreciate it.

If the m77 is a late 60's to early 80's manufacture I would jump all day.
