If anyone has any information on any nest sites of owl or eagles I sure would appreciate them sharing it with me. I’m getting into wildlife photography and would love the practice.

Also, at one time I know we had a falconer or two on the board. I would love to take photos for you free of charge.

Thanks

What's your location? There are generally always eagles around the Bonnet Carre spillway area, not sure of nest locations, but they hang out on top of the tall trees / poles over there often.

Also, not eagles or falcons, but there are tons of birds over in the Jungle Gardens at Avery island - try to hit it when the spoonbills are out there nesting and you'll see thousands of them.

imo the best way to get convenient practice, if you have a back yard and are near some swamps / forests is to put out feeders / nest boxes and work on all the birds you can see around your neighborhood.

You may be surprised how many species you can see just by spending some time outside and looking for them.

I got started back in '20 when everything was shutdown and I had a lot more free time. The practice you get trying to get clear shots of the little guys who move very quickly will help greatly when trying to get pics of bigger birds.

I use an EOS R and various lenses, my favorite for birding is a Sigma 150-600 - you can get some great shots for a fraction of the price you'd spend on a Canon or Nikon lens of similar specs.

I was wondering if there was a big used market for this stuff, admittedly haven't put as much research in as I need to

There were some eagles on the Mississippi River right across from Brec's Farr park a couple of years ago (close to LSU). I assume the nest is still there, but haven't checked recently.

Owls are very active in the SE in Feb/March. Spending time outdoors at night should help you find areas with lots of owls.

Just be careful with eagles on federal land. I can almost guarantee the people that manage the land know the nesting locations and most have a buffer of 330-660 feet depending on the season (nesting or not). I used a 300mm with a 1.4 TC and was able to get decent pictures of eagles at 600 feet but I have better luck when I spot them on the lake away from their nest.

As of a few weeks ago the eagle was still there. Directly across the levee from the model airplane field near Farr park on River Rd. just south of LSU.

Toledo Bend has a bunch of eagles.

By the way their numbers have increased the last 20 years, they have to be screwing each other somewhere close.

I know where a bunch of them are. We have a very large wintering population down here.

Ida blew down some of them. Last year I had two eating like seagulls after cleaning fish very often over two months. I’ll keep your e mail and talk to you later.

It’s an hour and fifteen minutes past my bedtime.

There is apparently an active eagle nest in Metairie. A person posts pics and updates on Facebook, but won't divulge the exact location.
