I'm looking to bring my son(6) to kill his first deer. I'd like him to kill something worth mounting for his first. Anyone know of any ranches in Texas that will allow a 6 year old to hunt? I also want to be in the stand with him along with the guide. I'm not opposed to high fence.

Look in the hill country to see lots of deer. Check out YO Ranch south of Kerrville. I'm not sure your budget but check their pricing.

Do you care if it's high fence or not?

The Lodge at Tee Mamou would be easy and fun

I figure it's going to cost me 4-5k for what I want

I went to the website for the Lodge in Tee Mamou and it said they weren't taking whitetail this year

I'm sure their whitetail hunting is different, but the exotic hunting was a pretty shitty experience. You just kinda drove around like 300ish acre "pastures" until you saw what you wanted eating alfalfa and just blast it from the car. Not something I'd recommend for a 1st experience.

Go check out South Texas Hunting Association on Facebook, they are always sharing a bunch of pics of kills taken by outfitters around the area. Might be a good place to start.

Check out Shonto Ranch around Kerrville. They guy I used last year was booking some hunts with them this year. It looks like they could offer whatever you need.

The Rio Bonito ranch in Kerrville. Hunted it as a kid and have fond memories. Theres a big lake that you can catch trophy bass between hunts as well.

My landowner i lease from has a high fence place in ingram. He doesnt advertise and has some great hunts i could hook you up with. Lodging would be nearby in kerrville.

Call Greg Simons at Wildlife Systems. He has ranches all over Texas. High or low fence. Great guides, food. Everyone is safety oriented. He can put you on a great deer.

Kerrville sounds like the place to go, I think every place listed has been there so far.

For exotics, no doubt. There is better whitetail hunting further south though.

Check out the Ford Ranch in Melvin Texas. I think that would fit what your looking for and within your budget. I've never personally hunted there but a guy that used to hunt with me did and always talked good of it.

Not judging or saying you are right or wrong but I had thought about doing the same thing. Then I remembered how happy I was as a teenager when I killed my first rack buck. I put a lot off arse time in a tree to get one. Not sure if it would have ruined the experience had I gotten one hand delivered earlier in life
