Lime and food plots

I limed this year and my plots look great. I plant buck busters. My question is how do I maintain the right balance of lime. A soil test showed I needed 1200 pounds per acre so that’s what I did. Is this something that has to be done every year?

Usually lasts for 3 years, but pull a soil sample every year , cheap and easy

A botanist once told me that I couldn’t “overlime”.

Yep. My Cuz started doing this every year instead of every 3-4 and our food plots the past 3 years have been amazing. Unfortunately, there has also been a record mast crop these same 3 years, so they don’t get hit until after the season. But I’ve had a couple of nice meals of turnips at least.

It's almost impossible to overlime down here.

Not every year. Previous rec of 3 years is spot on. Soil test will prove it. Money not spent on needless lime can be used elsewhere.

Did you use pellets or bulk lime? We use pellets and supposedly it takes them longer to be effective in changing PH. We put pellets down every other year
