Lawn Weed Advice
Posted on 2/16/18 at 7:29 am

85% of my lawn is still brown but I've got large patches of what I have always known as clover, just like what is shown in the pic:
What should I do to get rid of it? Please be specific with the product/chemical and application method.
Thanks!

Need to know what your turfgrass is

Unfortunately I believe it is a mix. I know its mostly Bermuda but some St. Aug or Centipede.
Does that help?

Spectracide Weed Stop works really well. If the weeds are in large spots you need to spray them then remove them by hand once they are dead. If they are in small spots, then they will die off and not come back without having to go back and pull them. I get the concentrated formula and mix it with my 2 gallon sprayer then go to work.

I spray 2-4d every spring, while my grass is still dormant...

Do you spray it over the entire lawn or only on weeds?
I'm new to all this. In the past, I have had great success with simple weed-n-feed application, but that was before the flood when I had a strong fairly weed free lawn. Now its a f*cking mess. I feel like I need to get a little more focused to get back to where I was.

I spray on the weeds and about 2 to 3 feet around them. As they die off and I find more in other places that I missed, then I just spot check them.

Weed n feed is frowned upon in these parts of the interwebs.

(I've always used Weed n Feed but somehow in the last couple of years my lawn has gone to hell.)
Please help me!

Right now your main battle should be either winter broadleaves or winter bluegrass. Broadleaves can be handled with
Atrazine, WeedFreeZone, Trimec, Speedzone, and the like. Rates depend on you turfgrass. The label will direct you on this. Poa annua, or winter bluegrass, will die off with warm temps. Simazine will kill it now if you so desire. The broadleaf herbicides listed above will also kill lawn burweed, which later turns to your dreaded STICKERGRASS.

Thank you, Bootlegger!
Although I have to admit that all that is Greek to me. Can I get that kind of stuff at my neighborhood Hardware store, Home Depot, or Lowes, or do I have to go to a more specialized place like Jefferson Feed?

The atrazine and WeedFreeZone (made by Fertilome) should be carried at the big box stores

Thank you again.
I regret I have one more question. Will my dog be in any danger if apply that stuff to my lawn?

I can't remember off the top of my head, but look for the REI (restricted entry interval) on the label of whichever one you buy. It will tell you when it is safe for humans and/or pets to go back into areas sprayed. Sometimes it's once it's dried, sometimes it will be a certain amount of hours
Posted on 2/17/18 at 8:22 am to bootlegger
Agree here. I believe once dried it's ok for pets

I have centipede and am going to spray with the weed stop now.
When should I feed and what should I feed with if I spray weeds now.
Also, is there anything I can do to get rid of torpedo grass that I had from last year. I'm hoping maybe the freeze we had killed it, but I'm doubting.

Something like a 15-0-15 is best for centipede, but whatever you choose just stay below 1# of actual nitrogen per year.
Torpedograss.....prayers sent, lol
Roundup that crap.
