I was fishing out of pointe aux chenes and I got slammed by a 34" 24lb jack crevalle on a chartruse matrix shad, carolina rigged with an exposed j-hook, while trout fishing on light tackle. It was out of a deep bayou in lake chene.

I didn't know that monster jacks lived that deep into the marsh, I've caught a few babies out there but that boy was a tank. 31 min fight, I didn't want to horse him in and risk breaking off. I was jigging that carolina rig under a white trout school and though I snagged an old crab trap lol. I yelled out to my dad, "fricking crab trap!" Then it spooled out 100yds of line in about 10 seconds on the first run, we had to chase it down the bayou with the i pilot.

Whats the biggest one yall caught out there?

Unless I have an expensive topwater bait on, I'm breaking that shite off every time.

That would be good for #2 or #3 in the state record book if documented!

They are a ton of fun but time consuming and they are hell on equipment. I enjoy fighting them if I happen to hook one but If I am catching trout and happen to hook one then I try to get it off by any means possible to continue fishing trout. They will fight for a long on when using conventional inshore tackle (3000 size reel and medium rod).

I generally catch them wade fishing out in Mississippi when I am throwing top water plugs.

A buddy caught this one in Catfish Lake a couple years ago, didn't get a length or weight on it though.

Thats really big for inshore. Just like a 40" redfish is big for inshore. Of course you can go to the rigs or reefs with monster tackle and skull drag 40lb jacks off structure. This was caught on trout tackle, not snapper or amberjack tackle.

First day on the water with it. Makes moving and fishing in heavy current night and day better. Wish we would have bought one sooner. Its expensive but worth every penny. Would rather it over a power pole any day.

Exactly. It's fun when nothing else is biting, but a PITA if you're on a bunch of trout or slot reds...

ETA: Or when someone new to fishing hooks one. That is worth seeing.

Those are the best, when your fiance who's never caught more than a bluegill hooks into a 30lb black drum in a kayak. She was screaming for help lol, she caught two big uglies all by herself that day!

I'm more a sport fisherman than anything. I only harvest redfish and large trout when I'm out and if people ask my for fish. Other than that I'm a sport kinda guy.

not really deep into the marsh, but the only one I ever caught was 30-35lber at 9 mile bayou. Took me 25 minutes to get him to the boat.
