This is my favorite park in the State Park system. There are three hiking trails, boat and canoe rentals, and plenty of good fishing spots throughout the park. The campground is within walking distance of the playground, nature center, fishing spots, and trails. Only downside are the insects, bring plenty of spray.

I grew up not far from there and spent a lot of time there. Very nice place. Everything the guy above me said.

I used to go there as a kid... very nice area. They were infested with alligators when I was there. Has that changed?

Are y'all staying in a cabin or a primitive campsite. We like to rent the spots you can only get to by boat. Canoe campsite 4 is pretty cool. You're camping on your own little island and feel much more secluded.

Very true. Pick up a couple Thermacells and a couple refill packs and you should be fine. Thermacells work very well and you don't have to go bed with oily shite all over you.

Otherwise, Lake Fausse Pointe is a great park. You should have a great weekend. Grab lunch at Pat's Fisherman's Wharf on your way out.

Are you going to have a boat? I've caught a few bass in the bayou that runs in front of the campground. When you launch, just take a right and go back under the bridge and you should be able to find some fish down there.

A guy at work said try the cypress trees around the dge of the lake.

Only went once but had a nice time there. Getting there was the problem for me. My damn GPS took me down 10+ miles of dirt roads along the levee. Good thing I had a 4x4 and my camper was covered in mud by the time I got there. Evidently the road is paved north of the park but unpaved south of it. So if you are coming from the east on HWY 90 be careful what exit you take. The premium spots have private docks for your boat

The GPS sends you that way because it is considered the fastest route, I guess due to the four lane to Baldwin. The best way is through Henderson and south on the levee for 25 miles.

One more question, can you drop a few crawfish traps in there?

I love it, going to camp out there for the third time in a couple of weeks. We always stay at the paddle campsites. Fishing is pretty good. Alligators should be out with the warmer weather. Saw some BIG ones last year about this time.

Caught nothing but small catfish last trip, the trip before that we caught a lot of brime and a couple of bass. It depends on where you are. What site did you get?

As long as you have a license you should be fine I guess...I would make sure everyone who fishes has a current license, Every time I go out wild life is there.

I don't think this can be stressed enough. It was a very nice trail except for being swarmed by bugs most of the time. I literally ran the last mile or so just to get out quicker. Those big things hurt like a bitch when they bite!
