Marketplace. Don't buy the chineese junk. You can find great deals on used kids atv's mainly because the kids never ride them. They get stored for too long and the carbs are dirty and the parents get tired of them sitting and taking up space.

I'm gonna show my misogyny, but for a boy or girl?

My two oldest kids were girls. They got a 4 wheeler. The boy got a dirt bike at 10. I did not trust him not to get pinned under or roll over by a 4 wheeler.

He wrecked a lot more up front, but I think it was the safe decision in the long run.

Look for a Honda Recon foot shift. Indestructible. Bought a used one from neighbor for my boys and I seem to use it more than them. Granted it is only 2 wheel drive but has never been stuck.

How old? Just around the yard? My kids have Razor electric 4 wheelers for cruising the yard and they are on them all the time. Easy to maintain and cheaper than gas 4 wheelers for now.

The Honda 90 has a legit governor.

It’s rated for 10 & up but younger kids can reach the shifter.

We’ve had electric stuff and I hate charging them. Does razor hold charge better than power wheels?

It’s 24 volt so it tends to last the day for us. Charge it overnight. Much better batteries than power wheels.

My kids have these and love them. Plenty fast enough for my 9 and 7 year old girls.

They sell a kit to turn it into 36 volt. It also adds reverse.

As others have said, any old Honda Recon, Yamaha 250-300, Suzuki, etc will work. I even like the old Polaris 2 strokes a bit.

I turn my kids loose on a old school foot shift big bear 350, but they have gear restrictions. Simple, if it goes above 3rd gear when my son (10) drives it= no more four wheeler. Above 2nd gear when daughter(7) is on= No more four wheeler.

Kawasaki bayou 220/250 if you can find one, Honda recon 250, Yamaha timber wolf if you can find one. All sold bikes that will last forever.

If you can find a Yamaha grizzly 125, also called the Breeze 125, I think, they are great machines. Downside is your kid won’t learn to foot shift like they would with other models. I think these were still made in Japan and are very sought after. If you take care of it you will get most if not all of your money back when u sell it. It has a screw in limiter on the throttle but will carry an adult about 28-30 mph with the screw all the way out.
