Just got my 18 month old a sand box for the backyard. I've heard mixing cinnamon into the sand will keep ants out of it.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Anyone have any other suggestions?

TIA

Your kid will enjoy rubbing that in his eyes.

A broadcast treatment of Bifenthrin or Fipronil will keep them off your property entirely

So, you're worried about him rubbing cinnamon in his eyes but not sand?

Bifenthrin and Fipronil are both the consistency of fine sand, so when applied to a lawn they disappear into grass. In case safety was concern to OP..

Yes. My kid rubbing cinnamon in their eyes while in a sand box ranks up there with worries and concerns...

Well, what did you have in mind for the sandbox? If he's going to rub sand/cinnamon, do you really think Ortho Orthene is much better?

Just price some Bifenthrin (whatever version of generic Talstar your local hardware store has) and spread that. 6-8 months of ant free yard. I treat over 30 acres of kids' baseball fields with it every year. It is safe, and extremely effective.

ETA: if you can't find any, let me know what size area you want to treat and I will price it for you through my supplier. I am ordering soon and will get a bulk discount.
