Looks like he was fishing for Jewfish. Piled up on a bridge like that with that heavy of tackle. Wonder how long it took to get it up?

Dave, don't know if you were making a joke, but they were originally called jewfish and then the PC crowd decided that was no bueno so they changed the name to Goliath.

I thought the Goliath was a deepwater fish. Off Louisiana they are caught at the deep water rigs.

Yeah, I was aware. I'm not too high on the pc crowd. I call it Jewfish.

I'm pretty certain they are one of the most shallow of all the grouper. I don't think they are really found past a few hundred feet. And I know they are often found in well under 100.

Goliath are a shallow-water grouper, often inhabiting waters less than 50', as shallow as 25-30'. They do live at the deep water rigs, but they stay up in the water column.
