So what is the technique in this situation? Lots of ducks rafting up in all the big ponds in the marsh. Always hear of people just parking a pirogue/kayak out in the middle of a bunch of decoys. Is covering up with grass mats and staying motionless enough? Or do you have to build a blind? Any tips appreciated.

Polar Pop and Coco have some nice kayak blinds. I'll let them chime in.

Had that situation today. Put willow branches around us. We didn't flare birds, but they weren't committing into the dekes. We only had passing shots on greys. Did shoot our limit in canvasbacks. Could have shot them all day. If I had to do it again we should have set up in a corner of a big pond about 100 yards of the shore line on the protected side.

Lsuson did well. Listen to him. We tried that but didn't kill shite and were 1000 yards from him

We use willow branches and canes. Set up properly can really kill birds they just don't get real spooky to the set up for some reason. It's a great late season technique.

Just tie/spud your boat in the middle of whatever big water the ducks want to land in.

if you can cover up with grass mat or a little brush to break up your ouline in the kayak and lay down, that would be the best situation...lower profile is better at this point in the season. just be sure to wear face mask/paint and gloves or they will see your face and hands...
