Gunbuyer had the S&W sporter for a nice price, $539 and free shipping. Friend with an FFL is waiving the transfer fee.

There are better ones but I thought this would be a good beginner one for the price and if I want to upgrade, it should not be too hard to sell and get my money back.

Excellent choice. Very solid little rifle and you'll most likely never miss the forward assist or dust cover.

I bought one at about that price about 5 years ago and love it.

Great! And you may want to hold onto it since youve gotten such a great deal. You cant ever have too many firearms, especially after all the flooding that's been going around, and possible boat accidents, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. There's a high probability that you will lose them all one way or another...

I doubt this will even be necessary. That rifle will have outstanding accuracy and is super lightweight. You'll love it.

Congrats and welcome to the club!

Sight (red dot or scope) and a nice aftermarket trigger

Those two things can easily add up to double the price you paid for the rifle.

If you just want the rifle for plinking maybe some iron sights.

+1 to what Civil said. A red dot sight would be a first for me, but if you're happy with the factory magpul sights then it won't be an issue.

I would probably swap out the handguard, stock, and grip for some others. They are usable as is but they aren't as comfortable as some other options. I like Hogue grips and magpul handguards and stocks. But there are so many to choose from out there that it's really personal preference. That's what makes the AR15 such an awesome platform - options.

Thanks. Already ordered a grip. Not crazy about the factory one. I'll have some fun at range this weekend.

gunbuyer.com was real good. Got it delivered on ups today. Took only three days to get here after I placed order. Shipping was free.

Went to zero it in this week. Had a friend who is a law enforcement firearms instructor do it. Damn thing fresh out of the box didn't need zeroing. He tested it and said it didn't need any adjusting. I saw the targets. He was right. Damn thing is well made.

Got the Ergo grip. Much nicer than the factory version.

This deal for the S&W Sport at $539 is even better with the rebate for the FREE Mag Charger ($100 value). This will be my Father's Day gift.

Bought one locally a while back, and while I didn't keep it, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the rifle.

Very accurate little gun out of the box. A forward assist is a way to make a simple problem turn into one that costs money. You're better off without it.

Change out whatever you want and customize, but keep that barrel!
