Grandpa killed this axis over the weekend. It was the only axis seen on the property, buck or doe. 30" antlers. Mountain Home, Texas. He and I each killed a hog also.

He had a very large "tumor" behind his shoulder. Learned it was from an arrow stuck in him. Miraculously he didn't even walk with a limp.

Nice. Damn wildfires wiped them out around our ranch.

There are exotics running around all over that area around Kerrville.

We only have 1 axis buck left on our place but my dad wont let us shoot it because my mom likes seeing it

Yep. We have killed axis, blackbuck, sika, and fallow on the property. We usually see tons of axis at this time of year and kill most of the big ones around this time.

Well hopefully he mates and y'all get more, assuming y'all have axis does.

No, all the axis does either escaped or died a while ago. He is fun to see and hangs out around the house so he will end up dying on the ranch. Sucks because he would make a badass mount.

Damn that's a hoss. That is a badass picture, I've always thought of doing that but didn't know how it would turn out.

How much are axis does? Might be worth buying 5 and setting them loose with ear tags...

I just recently started doing it, it takes a steady hand and a lot of patience but you can get some pretty good shots

Depends, some years we are overrun with them and some years they are nowhere to be found. We usually have more blues than bobwhites. This past year was a good year for the quail though.

I know the past few years have been down, but I have seen a few message boards where many are seeing increased numbers...

We have been getting a good amount of rain so far this summer down there (McMullen Co) so I am keeping my fingers crossed for a good quail crop this year. Fried quail is one of my all time favorite things
