Rookie deer hunter looking to get into it more. Live in New Orleans and usually go to Alabama a few times a season. Not looking to travel 3 hours every weekend either. Was wondering how guys usually join a camp or group of guys that go hunting?

If they have to advertise, they usually aren't a good camp. Word of mouth and friends are best.

I live in New Orleans. Id like somewhere closer than Alabama maybe about 1.5-2 hours away. Just a pain to go 4 hrs each way which is why I don't go as much as i'd like.

Louisiana does offer excellent deer hunting but for people in the SE portion of the state, options are limited (for high quality deer).

Hate to be a buzzkill, but we're all prettymuch in this boat man. Everyone in south LA is looking for the same thing, so good places either stay quiet or command top dollar. Price we pay to have some of the best inshore and offshore fishing in our back yard. If you're single you can try casually asking chicks if their dad has a nice place to hunt and then marry her depending on how good the answer is.

Just do like all the rest of the South LA folk that can't afford to get on a MS River lease and come on up to Tensas, Upper Ouachita, or Russell Sage.

you almost have to be friends with someone who is already in the camp for it to even be worth the risk....hunting clubs are notorious for giving the new guy the absolute shittiest places to hunt.

If your really wanting to get after it there are some brutes hiding in PR wma and BC nwr.

Hard hunting though.

Can see hints of it around here second week of September. Including numerous empty corn sacks lining the roadways.

this is the best solution

If you're willing to pay 2k a year just for a membership then you can find some decent places but you're gonna have to network and get out there and go through some bad ones first
