Thinking of heading to the Jean Lafitte National Park - Barataria Preserve while the weather is still decent, hoping to get an opportunity to see(and take pics of) some different birds and wildlife than the ones in the backyard.
I searched and haven't seen any threads on it since 2015 or so, anyone been recently or have comments to share / suggestions on best areas around there?

I was there about a month ago. Over half of the trails were closed or partially closed due to Ida damage. Their website mentions some closed trails and signs at the visitor center list other trails that are closed. Ultimately, we found that neither were correct. We hiked what we could but we were pretty disappointed that the park hadn't cleared trails of Ida debris. Trails with boardwalks had further damaged or were missing boardwalks altogether and were understandably closed.
Call ahead and find out what's open before driving out there.

Thanks for that info. I figured they may still have some issues from the storm but it seems like I may be better off waiting based on your comments. The main thing I wanted to do was go on those boardwalk trails to have a shot at getting some good bird pictures.

I went a week and a half ago. Wanna say all but one trail was open. Lots of snakes (only one moccasin) and a few gators. Irises are blooming, good time to go.
