Heard decent things about Barska 20-60x60. I picked up my Leupold for a steal last year after Thanksgiving. Is inexpensive sub-$300?

Picked up a Baraska Colorado Spotter 20-60x60 from ar15scopes.com came with a cheap Baraska 6x24x50 scope that I put on my 22 all for $100. Used them both the other day at the range spotting scope came in very handy eye relief could be better but not bad over all for what I payed.

I was looking at spending no more than $500. I am going to buy an adapter so I can connect my Canon DSLR to it. My son will be hunting his first season in the hill country of Texas, and I would like for us to take lots of pictures. I can also video with my Canon, so I can get his first harvest.

I found a big 30-90 x 100 Barska for $280, just wasn't sure on the quality. and a Barska Blackhawk 25-75 x 100 for $450 brand new.

Watching a Leupold Kenai 2-60 x 80 for $400.

Not sure on spotting scopes but on cameras 50mm is how you see so 100mm is 2x magnification.

Eta: if this is primarily for photos, I am willing to bet you will be disappointed in the results. Deer or anything else at long distances in low light are going to require fast glass. You aren't going to get that from a spoting scope

In camera terms it is refering to the speed and size of the opening of the camera lens, this allows light to the camera and allows pictures to be taken that in low light.

Seconded. Can't say enough good things about Vortex. Most impressive glass on the market for the money IMO.

Check out the Alpen 20-60x80 spotting scope. I've reserched them a good bit but haven't bought yet. Great reviews on Amazon.

Not to be "that guy" but "50mm is how you see" is correct if talking about crop sensors. Full frame cameras and film cameras it's 35mm.

Everything else wick said is truth. Skip the spotting scope and buy a 70-300mm lens for under $500. The aperture won't be more than like 5.6 but once the light gets bright enough, it will take some decent photos plus it will make a pretty damn good spotting scope.

If this is something you are looking to use once for a trip then buy used or better yet borrow someone else's.

If this is something you plan on using regularly then up your budget. Eye fatigue is very real and a poorly constructed set of optics can place a real tax on your eyes after a few hours.

Cant comment on the adapter/camera angle but it seems like an interesting concept.
