ideas for outfitting my shop

Just bought a new house with a 40'x60' shop. Looking for ideas on some economical pallet rack type shelving as well as some canteliever type racks to store wood, metal, etc. Also looking for ideas on layout, want to make a section for woodworking, metalworking/welding, and storage.

yea, one of the main selling point for me. Had to drop a bunch of $ in the house to mark mrs. boux happy though.
Have two roll up door on one end an entry door on opposite end and another on the side. No windows.
heres a pic with my back to rool up doors. Currently a mess now as just had to dump everything in it during the move. Have a bathroom in the corner and a builtin workbench on the right side. Thinking about putting in pallet rack shelving the entire left side for material storage, odds and ends, etc.

Personally, I would want an indoor deer cleaning station with a hoist. But you probably need a drain for that.

Uni-strut is extremely versatile. We always ordered our shite from McMaster Carr in bulk

Metal work doesn't require that much space unless you're planning on doing large projects. Buy a stick of 4x4x1/4 square tube, a stick of 4x4x1/4 angle, 4x8 sheet of grating and four heavy duty casters and build a welding table. You can roll it in and out as needed.
Woodworking needs room.
Table saw needs 10' in front and at least 8' in back with minimum 4' on either side.
Miter saw need at least 8' on either side (preferably 12' on one side)
Router table is about the same as miter saw
Need an assembly table at least 4x8' with a thick smooth flat top (make drawers for the bottom to store assembly tools and clamps)
A nice size tool chest preferably with a work top
Cabinets everywhere
Build an A frame on casters with a chain hoist for picking up, unloading, etc.
Build another building for storage. If you give your wife a section in your shop for storage, that section will grow and end up being a place to put stuff that should just be thrown away.
Congrats, I've got some serious jealousy right now.

your idea of mess and my idea are two completely different things.
In time you will have more shite in there than you ever thought possible. I have had no luck finding heavy duty shelving like that at Sam's or something at a reasonable price but IMO that would be perfect for you. I ended up building a small loft in mine that's 10' off the ground and tied into a horizontal support beam. I have a table saw under it and my other wood working stuff. Then I keep stuff I don't use as often on top of it. Have peg board running down the side, workbench, etc..
Nice shed you will enjoy it, if you find cheap heavy duty shelving by all means please post it up!
