I’ll stand by the “no ambiguity” statement, it’s easy to ask agent and if they don’t know they should get you an answer. After that, they are on or off the hook. Now, as a former FB agent, they are more interested in selling you some whole life than taking care of you property & casualty business. Worst agency force in insurance by miles.

Wouldn’t my homeowner’s policy cover it if they break into my shop and manage to find my key and my kill switch and defeat my cameras and my hidden air tag?

If it is at your residence and you can establish it is used to service the residence premise there could be some coverage. If it is at deer camp or somewhere other than your primary residence it would not be covered.

Similar to a lawnmower or smaller tractor.

"Vital to the upkeep of the property" is a pretty fricking ambiguous sentence.

Was it stolen or damaged on the primary residence premises?

Yes. A tree fell on my shop damaging the lawnmower and the tractor. Initially it was none, then it was one item with an engine. Then it was the mower and nothing else. All from an agent who had covered all of our property and policies for 40+ years and had previously assured me it was covered.

Like most people/companies who screw me over, I let them know it was a poor decision. And then proceded to cost them 100x over what they screwed me out of.

A few quick calls and a getting a few people to file complaints at the right time, a lack of a lower compliance person to review it. LDI did most of the work for me.

frick him. Break your word and I'll burn you.

From an insurance agent blog:

Homeowners insurance & ATVs

The biggest misconception among policyholders is believing that their home insurance policy will cover their off-road vehicle. The truth is that most homeowners insurance policies will specifically exclude coverage for off-road vehicles of all kinds — especially when the vehicle is driven off of the insured’s property.

You can explain to your clients that much like coverage for a motorcycle, an ATV requires a separate insurance policy. However, because a homeowners policy will provide coverage for accidents that occur on the insured’s property, there may be some liability protection if an incident occurs on the premises, but that depends on the individual policy.

Coverage under a personal auto policy

It is an all-too-common misconception for an insured to think their personal auto policy will automatically extend to an off-road vehicle and provide protection. Again, the answer is no.

Policyholders need to know that their personal auto policy will only provide coverage for personal vehicles that are insured under the auto insurance contract. Policyholders need to understand that without liability coverage, they could be putting their assets at risk in the event of a serious accident.
