Generator? Looking at picking one up for Hurricane season. Wanting to run fridge, ac, some lights, and freezer. What's your set up? I'll hang up and listen now.

5500 watt will be fine as long as your ac is window units. If you wish to run central ac,electric stove and water heater you will need a 15KW for starters.

You can get the electric company or an electrician to do an energy audit. You can turn everything on and check it while your AC is running on a hot August day, about 2 p.m. That is your peak demand. If you want no interruption in your usage - I would size the generator to 10 to 15% above peak demand (or just the next class up).

You can also, sort of, do it yourself by checking your meter and seeing how many KW you take from the electric company from about 1 pm to 5 pm on hot, July and August afternoons and divide by 4. That should be a good average high demand number, but I would still size the class above that.

6000kw is good if your ac is a window unit? I have a 17kw standby that runs the central ac and most of the house....
Just really depends on your ac.

Gonna take a big one to run the ac unit. You can go a lot cheaper with a smaller generator and a big window unit and just use part of the house. I have a 9000kw and we run everything but the ac units. Just use a nice big window unit and cool the front of the house.

These are mine and so far I like them.
I haven't needed them yet but they are really quite and I have 4 5gal cans ready to fuel them.

They won't run my central air but I have 2 small windows units I load tested and these will easily run both of them, my fridge, freezer some lights and fans with no issues.

It stores energy for when the ac kicks on. It helps to get the compressor going when it is first turned on. This is what the ac guy told me. When my ac units were new,the generator could kick them on with no problem. after a few years it would not and my ac guy put these on and it has worked fine since the install.

6500, I usually just run a medium sized window unit in the living room if I have too. Will run that, fridge and all the fans necessary to keep air moving.

-Well
-Lights
-Ceiling Fan
-Small window unit for a bedroom

LINK to approximate what your generator can run.
