I'm back finally!

Looks like I've got honey bees in the overhang of my house.
I haven't noticed them until this morning, so I don't know exactly how long they've been there. I know they weren't there last Sunday. I work with a guy that messes with bees a little bit, and trying to get in touch with him. Until then, what does the good ole OB suggest?

They can make rather large combs given the room. I'd want them gone.

Some got in a clients second story wall and proceeded to fill up two voids between studs floor to ceiling. Sounded like a small electric motor running and the plaster inside was warm to the touch.

depends on where they are...if they are just clumped up on the outside of the overhang, don't mess with them as they are just swarming and will move on as soon as they find a suitable place to build a hive (make sure there is nothing around).

if they are actually getting into the structure of your house through a crack or something like that, you will need the help of a professional.

Don't hose them down with bug spray.

It sounds like your's haven't been there long, but I've heard that dead bees and a decomposing hive can smell awfully nasty. Your guy may have to cut your soffit and/or fascia to get them out, but you want them out.

Are you my doppelganger?

I came home yesterday from a short trip and noticed honeybees flying all around my front door. I took a closer look and they are entering my porch overhang through a crack between the front outside wall and the porch ceiling siding.

I called an expert and he asked me to seal the gap they are entering in, but to leave about a 1 to 2 inch gap so they can still enter and exit. He's stopping by tomorrow with a trap-out that will the bees leave but not get back in. I guess the thinking is that with no bees being able to bring food back to the hive, the remaining bees will leave and look for a new place. The bees have only been there for 3 days max, so I was told it may take about a week for the bees to finally move out of the ceiling, so long as the bees don't find another way to enter.

If the trap-out works, I should have a lot of bees on it and I'll make sure to post pictures. Fun times.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the cost for them to remove the bees? The bees I'm dealing with found another entrance to their hive, so my trap out wasn't effective. There is no way I can seal up all the gaps on the front porch, so I have to call in an expert.
