Hog Corral Trap - Wireless signal for when door is closed - Any ideas

In march/april, i'm going to build my dad a large corral trap. I am looking for ideas to rig the door enclosure to send a signal to my dad's cabin when the door is closed...mainly to elimante him from having to go out there everyday and just be able to see from inside (his mobility has been limited with his age). This trap will not be far away, maybe <100 yards through dense woods. Does anyone have ideas for something I could rig, just a sensor that will signal to the cabin that the door has been tripped?

will power be available at the trap?

would you have cellular signal at the trap?

no power, could use solar i guess

it would be very limited cellular (AT&T). wouldn't count on it, though

I've never explored this type of need before, but love trying to problem solve stuff like this.
Search Amazon for item below. Battery operated with 1/2 mile range. You would have to work with the sensor to set it to alert you when hogs are in the corral. Not expensive at all to give it a try.
A review that sounds applicable
Also, trying looking for a wireless swimming pool gate alarm. Similar application to what you're looking for. Distance involved may be an issue though.
Update us on the outcome. I enjoy seeing what solution ultimately solved the problem.

Well, you decide? By Red Ball Jets - November 1, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase Your level of satisfaction with this product will be based solely on your application. First, let me explain how this product works. This product senses motion between two different temperatures. The outside air and anything warmer or cooler than that air. So, thankfully swaying tree branches do not trigger it. If you're looking to be alerted to humans or animals, this product does that very well. If you're looking to be alerted to vehicles (which is why I bought it) there will be some limitations

why not just run a doorbell switch with 300-400 feet of light wire from the trap to the cabin. door closes bell rings inside. there are also wireless door bell set ups but have no clue as too range

thanks for the ideas guys. those seem to be viable options. i see a lot of issues created by not running wireless. something like this would be great, but the range (non-destructed line of sight) is only about 250-300. if I could find something like this with more range, that would solve it.

We use surveyor tape on the door and the frame plus a pair of binos.
2 separate pieces of tape, door open
1 wad of tape door closed.
Works from 400 plus yards for us
"Keep it simple stupid" has served me well
Nvm, I missed the dense woods part.

if you need power at the trap just get a lawnmower battery and a small solar charger

Check out dakota alarms. They work well but are motion detected

this is actually a damn good idea...all you would need is a switch on the door to see when it is open/closed....that would put all of the electronics, etc at your house so there would be no need for power or cell signal at the trap.

I can certainly see the issue running wires overhead. Have you thought about running the wires in ground using the spool and bury tool that they run pet containment systems with? Wires being underground should eliminate issues.
The other thing to try is a wireless game can that texts pictures. External antennas can be bought that will give enough signal, even in areas with limited service. @$300 for a good quality camera, and $10 a month to add a line. Not only will he know when the trap is set, he can know exactly what, and how many critters are in it.
