Hog bait holes ** ( Update)

Has anybody ever used hog bait holes to keep hogs in the area? Do they work? Live on a little 20 acre farm on a hill but within 100 yards of a major ceeek on the south side. Never had hog problems except for about 5 years ago when all of a sudden they came in and destroyed about a hundred watermelons in one night. Now they are tearing our feeders off the trees and demolishing the deer corn...... I'm ready to go scorched earth on these bastards and fill the freezers. Before anyone asks why I want to keep them around the answer is to kill them all...... Never dug bait holes but I'm considering it and putting asses on stands to eliminate the problem. Any recipes greatly appreciated
***** Update.... Well we shot 3 more hogs in 2 night hunts. Came in early around 9 o'clock.... I can tell you sitting in a ground blind at night in pitch black darkness 25 yards from hogs grunting and squealing is a little unnerving. Took 2 sows average weight of 200 lbs and a small boar. Exhausting but worth the effort. Tried a couple bait holes and they were demolished the first night...... Thanks for all the input guys

Take some burlap sacks and wire them to trees, pour burnt motor oil on the sacks, the Hogs will visit them everyday

Can’t kill them all by hunting them. Got to trap.
Those traps that can be dropped via cell phone are THE way to do it

And even this will take lots of persistence.
Put low fences around any deer feeders you have or better yet, remove them all for a month or so and hope they move to the neighbors property.
But either way, it's a great source of meat for the freezer. It's a shame they tear so much crap up and reproduce like crazy. Otherwise, they would be a great animal to have around and selectively hunt.

Problem is we have only taken 2 hogs so far. They are basically totally nocturnal now. Still they visit all 4 feeders every damn night and all but destroy them..... At wits end..... Our rep Rodney Shammerhorn tried to get a bill passed allowing for night time feral hog hunting but it was swiftly shot down by the wildlife & Fisheries dept..... Can't win for losing

Find a low area that holds water regularly and look for wallows. If you know where they are Bait them up. If you don't have one of those traps to drop Get you a big arse ball of Tanerite and hang it just above the Corn Get a very clean bottle of like an old mayonase fill it up and get back. shite gets real quick.

i have a thermal scope on a .300 blk out. let me know when you want to put a dent in them.

I've made them. Take a post hole digger and dig a narrow hole as deep as you want to go with it. Fill it with corn. But realize that that's the spot that they're going to dig a bomb crater.
I also made a toy for them that worked like a charm on the big boars. Take a piece of heavy sewer PVC pipe. It's probably six inch. Cut it about five feet long. Put a perforated barrier wall in it about 8 inches down to create a chamber where you put rocks and attractant. Cap that with a screw cap. Put 3/8" holes about ever 8 inches all around the circumference of the rest of it so that there's always a hole on the ground. Put a screw cap on that end along with a heavy round eyelet through the end of it that's got heavy washers on it so that it can turn easily and not get bound up.
Pound a piece of rebar in the ground and get a big piece of rope that you attach a rotating snap clip on each of. One end is the hog toy. The other end is a big metal ring that you drop over the rebar.
They'll come work that thing every night for hours. Even when it's empty because they smell the attractant and hear the rocks in that chamber. They'll turn that spot into a crop circle pretty fast rooting that pipe around hoping for some corn to fall out.
Between that, the corn holes, and the rub as mentioned above, you've got hog Disneyland.

Easy solution, sit in stands with night vision or even easier, get the green motion detection lights and mount on the feeders.

Circle traps are "cheap" if you already have some sort of livestock equipment lying around like t-posts and cattle paneling. It's fast to put up/take down with a small tractor and two people. Like any trap and hogs, give them time to go and out to eat getting use to it.
We've built large ones before with large hog problems. The great thing is you dont need to clear trees, just run around them and use the post driver. The main problem is costs, but we've always had the material around.

Either stop feeding them or trap them
You can go out and shoot some at night it’s fun but you aren’t doing anything to the population because a whole bunch are going to get away and go frick and have more babies
Don’t just put out a trap and hope for the best. Get a good idea of how many you have with cameras and strategically trap them

I don’t mind them too much at my place as my deer hunting is shitty. That said I did buy a digital night vision scope to have a better chance of killing them. I will try a hole full of corn in the near future as well.

This is the only answer if you actually want to get rid of them. You will never be able to shoot the whole group from stands.
Once you’ve accepted you will only make a small dent in them by shooting, target the large females as the young ones sometimes stick around after she is dropped and give you more shots. If the female has a young litter (size of rabbits), the babies will come back to the mom once she’s been killed. You can mop up the babies with small arms.

I have used the bait hole method and it worked pretty decent for keeping them there eating.
Like Captain Rumbeard said, expect the area to look like a bomb crater.

I’ve used bait holes but have found a sack of bran to be so much better and just as effective.
