Yes, your looking at between 80 and 150 fps in different grains between the .308 and 30/06. If the op has a 30/06 then I would change my recommendation to .270 unless he's looking for a shorter more compact rifle. I own a .308 and a .300 win, so I'll never need a 30/06.

For all those picking the 308 what are yals reasons? Not hating, just curious.

The .308 gives you the performance of the 30/06( within 300 yards) in usually a shorter barrel with less recoil. Two there are a lot of fans of the .30 cal bullet and he didn't mention the .300 win or 30/06 so the .30 cal fans are going to select the .30 cal option.
