Help Exciting a generator

Yes, I know if I put this on the OT, they would have a field day with the title.
I have a 2007 Kilopak/ Mitsubishi 15KW generator at my camp in Lafitte. Recently the voltage regulator went bad and we had to replace it. It lost its charge and the people at Air Cooled Engines in Harvey showed us supposedly how to re-excite it. We tried it but it still isn’t producing correctly. They are very backed up so getting them to come out there isn’t an option right now.
Does anyone have any other suggestions of who I could contact to come take a ride to my camp and do this, either another company or someone I could pay to do it? I could run them on a weekday, evening or weekend. If so, my email address is krodrigue55@yahoo.com. Thanks.

It's a large diesel, not a smaller gas one. We tried multiple times following the instructions given to us. Hooking up to the F1 and F2 prongs on the voltage regulator to a battery and flashing it. It still not producing the voltage.
A few years ago the windings burned up and we had them reworked. We had to have this done back then. The person that came out to excite it died awhile back so that leaves me a little helpless right now. I know he just hooked something up and touched the battery a few times until it started producing. Didn't pay that much attention to what he was doing, because I wasn't thinking at the time to pay attention.

Thanks. I googled that one. Our generator is hard wired directly to the main breaker box and has no outlets directly on it. When at the camp, I googled several ways but had no luck. I also read that its just a matter of getting it right so obviously I'm missing something. Also doesn't help when you don't know what you are doing and don't want to fry anything else on your generator.

This thread is awesome because people are going to learn a lot from it.
You usually hear it called "flashing the field" so that might be why people don't know what you're talking about. I'll have to respond tomorrow if somebody doesn't before then. You need to do it with something higher voltage than a battery (Meg meter or something).
What model alternator does it have?

You could turn the main on with all the other breakers off, and find a breaker with a 110v outlet To do this.

guy who did it last time did it with a regular square battery from a flashlight. Like I said, I can kick myself for not paying closer attention.

Maybe you could. It's a common problem with generators that aren't run often.
They rely on the residual magnetism in the windings to get going. All you have to do is get some current through the windings to develop some magnetic field before starting up.
I've been drinking for a while and I don't want to tell you something that's going to smoke your generator. If nobody answers tomorrow I'll tell you how to do it.

I just had a class on generators last semester and this sounds right. Never actually had to do it, though, so don't listen to me

Are y'all referencing the light system or the drill system? If so, then should I have my breakers on and just plug it into a wall socket in the camp. As I stated, the generator is hard wired into the main breaker box in the shed and has no direct plugs.

If you going to try the Drill way, you will need to have the breakers on up to the outlet you are using.

Yea. A good way to cheat is to use a cordless drill to spin the drill that's plugged into the outlet. Just make sure you have your shite together first and don't be an idiot and break your arm off.
You can also re-excite the rotor with a battery. Find the leads coming from the rectifier to the rotor magnets and juice them. Probably a good idea to unhook the regulator first so you don't fry your brand new regulator from hitting the wrong thing.

I have someone who works at my uncles shop lined up to go out tomorrow afternoon who does this. 
I will definitely study what he does and will report back after.
