Kisatchie NF banned deer dogs a few years ago but MS NF still allow them

Lawsuits were filed against Kisatchie but the court upheld the decision to ban them

Can't even get away from the ANTIs on the OB. Just live and let live. I strictly bow-hunt, anyone know about the process for banning firearm season on National Forest? Any spear hunters want to ban bows on National Forest? Screw Area 51 let's storm the U.S. Forest Service

Yea, pretty sad to see. I’ve hunted my whole life with dog hunting leases all around me and hunted KNF when dogs were allowed. Still kill all kinds of deer. If dogs mess up your hunting I’d suggest take up knitting or kite flying instead.

Yeah, I was reading the article hence the question (this is for deer btw). And for those complaining, I am not against the practice in theory. But the dog hunters in AL have zero respect for the land and animals. They don't own the land (many act like they do) and it kills the experiance for all hunters.

Unfortunately this pertains to all kinds of hunters

Unfortunately, that applies to alot of hunters in Louisiana. Kisatchie is terrible sometimes. I was parked at the end of a forest road during Turkey season a few years ago when a fella in a red pickup comes driving down the road and onto the portion beyond my truck that was closed to vehicle use. Drove right by my truck, and kept on going. Hell, even after I stood up and walked over to him to talk, he still kept going on down a CLOSED ROAD!! Did not care whether he was disrupting my hunt or not.

But, that is just something I've come to expect on public land. Some people are just trash and don't respect others.

Agree, but they don't own the land. And we can do more than just "that's how it always has been." It is a public asset, and should be treated as so. Pack in/pack out. Don't kill everything that moves. These things are coming, and I would like to push them more in my local area.

technically they do own the public land. In the Homochitto it is common to see dog hunters blocking public roads so they can line them. The fellers doing the blocking have radios so they can give the folks on the road a warning if a warden/cop shows up.

I maintain that responsible dog hunting for deer with a group is a much more enjoyable experience for the new or youth hunter than solitary still hunting.

I’m thankful I grew up with it before deer hunting changed.

An anti-hunter could say the same thing about getting all hunting banned. Why should they not be allowed to hike through the woods all year with worry from hunters’ shots? Just something to think about.

Most of the public doesn’t hunt and to them all hunting is the same. I could say negative things about bowhunting but I don’t in open forums. Why give the antis more ammunition is my motto.

I call them slob hunters and they exist for almost every form of hunting.

Not an unreasonable request. Those tracts of land are for hikers, camping, bird watching, etc. I would rather public land be for bow hunting only, but I am understanding of other views. But running your beagles through the woods and killing the experiance for everyone shouldn't take place on public lands for deer.

Dog hunters and the demise of there sport is 100% of their own actions. They love to come to sites and try and battle it out but bottom line the mirror is where they need to start their arguments. I loved the sport growing up and nothing will ever replace the sound of a pack lighting it up. But looking back, as a kid, the elders we hunted with done sketchy things, released dog where the shouldn't have, let them run across properties and push to areas we could hunt, sat on roads, shot out in and off of vehicles and roads, cut fences, went around gate. put ruts on peoples property, etc. It was a free for all western shootout style hunting.

What about rabbit, squirrel, and raccoon hunting on those lands? The seasons typically overlap.
