Anybody ever saw anything about hacking Garmin electronics to control Minn Kota trolling motors? It seems like someone would come up with a way.

Never understood why they don’t make them just NMEA compatible so they’re universal to any MFD.

Because they charge $300 for remotes that last a year.

As much as the ipilot changed my fishing experience, I think my next one will be something else just because of that.

I am sure it is to ensure a market for Garmin TMs. Its pretty smart of Hummingbird and Minn Kota to team up. They are both part of Johnson Outdoors I think. I am certain Johnson Outdoors is the barrier...to ensure market share. It seems like it'd be fairly simple for someone who knows how to hack both the Garmin and Minn Kota interface and make them talk to one another. I can't imagine it being any more secure than credit card information and god knows thats easy enough to hack for those bent that way. Probably not enough money in it to make it worthwhile. It'd be nice though. I will probably become part of the problem in a few years and buy a Force TM that will talk to my Garmins...I like them better than Hummingbird...just a personal thing, not slamming Hummingbird.
