Yeah, and it still hasn't sold.
OP's gun looks original given the poorly lit pictures. What a jewel if so.

not 100% sure I know the difference.
Extractors require you to pull the shells out of the chambers with your fingers when the action is opened.
Ejectors eject the shells when the action is opened without you doing anything.

They only eject if the trigger is pulled... How check the barrel length...

James Julia has an upcoming auction and has some 21's listed. These are pristine guns but give an idea on price. Anything smaller than a 12 gauge will carry a premium as well as barrels over 28". Barrels less than 28" (26") sell at a discount...

Pictures of the barrel and stock. The thing that still bugs me about it being so old is how does it have parkerized barrels on it that are stamped steel shot on it?

I wonder if the gun had another set of barrels made? The rest of the gun looks in good shape, no good reason unless they were damaged. The factory letter might give you guidance.

I am going to call the people at the Cody museum tomorrow and talk with them and see what they say. So long as they think it's worth while I will send in the paperwork. Only downside is that I think the original barrels are likely gone. If I had them I suspect I would have a true legendary gun.
None the matter I will always miss my friend that was the owner. He was a lot of fun to hunt and train dogs with. Most anyone on here that has run dogs for anytime would know him by name he was a great man.

I looked back at the barrel flats. The mention of steel does not mean safe for steel shot. It means that they are made of Winchester steel and not twist (damascus steel)

Yeah but trust me the barrels are new, they aren't old. There is a rear sight on them and a fiber optic on the end. No way they could be original IF the gun is as old as it appears to be from the conversation here.

They do look newer... If the factory letter comes back at any length other than 30" you have your answer. There should be 3 serial numbers on the gun, the action (under the top lever) on the barrels and on the forearm. They should all match. If they do and the barrel lengths do not match the Cody letter then you know it has been re-barreled. Done at the factory, it will not hurt the value tremendously...
It is also possible that the other barrels, if another set was made, are still fine and at the home that no one noticed...

Was the owner nicknamed Popeye? From Chalmette?

All serial numbers match that much I am certain of. Already checked that, sounds like I may have a really valuable gun. Pretty neat.
It helps a lot to know the factory could re barrel the gun and put the same serial numbers on it that helps a lot with the id of the serial number.

No the owner was from Gretna, LA. He was a very liked and loved man, gone for a year and still missed daily.

It's a beautiful double and there are plenty of Winchester nuts that would love to have it..
