Gun Safe

I'm in the market for a gun safe. Between me, my wife, and two boys we own around 13 guns. What is the best gun safe without paying a arm and leg? Thank you to

Liberty makes the best safes imo. I would get something small from them.

I have a cannon 24 gun safe and have about 18 long guns and 5 pistols in it and it's pretty full. I bought it used from a friend I believe for $450, you can buy them new for $600ish. Mine has the mechanical dial lock, I don't believe I would want the electronic keypad. JMO
Go ahead and buy a golden rod heater to keep condensation down.

This. Especially if you're in amd put of it a bunch. It can be a pita pulling from the back all the time.

I have been looking as well. I am on the Northshore and went to a place in Mandeville to look. I went in there thinking I was going to buy a Liberty but left feeling confused as to why I need one. I think if I do buy one it will be a Browning.
Here a couple of things to consider about any of the gun safes.
1. They are not waterproof
2. While they are fireproof, during a fire they get extremely hot inside. So its a bad place to put ammo and important papers. If you are going to store non metallic items in the safe then get one with a humidifier.
3. When they are rated for X amount of guns, that means no scopes on the rifle. If you have scopes on your rifles cut the number in half
4. They are not as safe as you think. Someone on here cut an AMSEC(one of the top brands) pharmacy rated one open in about an hour. The door gives the illusion of unbreakable security.
5. Bolt it down to the floor once you get it. This will almost double the security of the safe. No one can tip it over and if you put it somewhere with very little room on the sides it makes it extremely difficult for someone to get a grinding wheel on the sides of it to cut it open. The sides and top welds are the weak link so protect them.
I learned all of this in about 30 minutes talking with the sales guy in the store. I left thinking why do I need a 1000 lb monster just to protect my guns from a burglary. I am still considering buying one but I have to accept the limitations and be happy with it.

Another tip, if you're putting it in the house, place it on an exterior wall if possible.
Also, I have a Winchester and I like it. Not an OB baller though

Better than in the fire.
Some people put important papers in a fire rated box and put that in the bottom of the safe. But either way, that safe is likely the safest place in your house for paper.

You are correct. We have ours in a safety deposit box and were considering bringing that stuff to the house and storing it in the safe.
You can add the fireproof box but it will take up space in the safe.

off topic but try screwing a fobus holster to backside of head board for sidearm....nobody looks there for a piece plus its ready when you are if needed during the night.

I have the Liberty FatBoy Jr., claims to be a 48, but I have 12 in half of the safe with shelves on the other side of the divider. Its tight, only 5 of them have scopes, just to give you some insight on cutting that number in half, the only possible way you will be able to fit as many as advertised is if they are all iron sighted single shot crack barrel guns, and they will still probably touch, plus good luck getting the ones in the back out of the safe without taking a few out.
As far as the safe itself goes, I'm extremely pleased with it. I know it's not thief proof, fire proof, or flood proof, but it serves my needs. It keeps my kid out of them, pleases the wife, and frankly just looks nice in my man cave/office.
Someone talked me out of the electronic lock and I'm glad they did, I also added the factor outlet, factory led light strips with motion detector, and the dehumidifier rod.

Tractor supply has Cannon at good prices. Year end sale right now. Rule of thumb...buy one at least twice as big as you need!

I am at the point where my safe is full...like too full. Only way I can fit them is to put some on there barrels and some on the butt stocks front to back and I dont like it. So get bigger than you need...and like others said that number they claim is way overblown. I built a closet in my closet so it has its own door. I am thinking rather than putting a bigger safe in that closet ill just build some store like racks and shelves for it all. Its a solid door and tamper proof hinges with a deadbolt.

Perhaps he's heard that the rear of a safe is the most vulnerable? So if it's bolted down with the back against an outside wall they would have to take more time inside or approach through a more stout veneer than sheetrock, plus the potential of being seen/caught is greater. Just a guess.

I'm loyal to cannon after experiencing their customer service after mine flooded. Not only did they send me a replace safe at no cost to me, they also upgraded me to a nicer model

I have a Liberty Fat Boy Jr for sale. It got flooded, but the mechanisms work perfectly. Trying to see what it's worth.
