How’s your experience been? In Louisiana or other states.

I’ve been a handful of times over the years, and always get stuck in the “gar hole” or with the “new guide”.

Other groups kill and we don’t fire our guns.

Is it all about more $, better blind?

I can honestly say, I’ve never paid one penny for a guide to shoot ducks in my life and I’m 38. I’ve killed thousands of ducks on public land or private land invites. I don’t own any ducking hunting property. To each there own, but I just don’t understand paying anyone to kill a duck. Every mallard I ever killed, wood duck I ever killed, all look the same. I’ve been on hunts on public land that could never be beat, limits in minutes.

Csb. Some people have the means to simplify their hunting experience and choose to do so.

Others physically cant do all the public land stuff.

And if you hunt just a couple times a year, guide hunting is more cost effective

To the OP. Duck hunting in Louisiana has just become increasingly difficult to nail down even for a number of guides. Many are focusing their killing on specks because they cant consistently kill ducks anymore.
FWIW a friend went to habitat flats and didnt fire a shot this year.
Hunting isnt a guarantee except maybe argentina

I kill and usually have better hunts solo with no help on public land.

That is unrelated to my OP and question about getting hosed on guided hunts where other groups do well the same day

I've never done the guided hunt thing , but sometimes I'll get invited by an old friend to hunt their blind that I don't normally hunt with and a few guide sometimes, but I'll put some gas in the boat for them or throw them a little money for shells/gas/whatever. Honeybrake is nearby and I always wanted to go, but I don't wanna stay the night and pay for all that bullshite, I just wanna show up and hunt, I'd pay for that just because I've always wanted to go.

Grosse Savanne or Gordon Markel. Wouldn't waste $ anywhere else including Honey Brake. Don't get me wrong, great set up, lodge etc. but the hunting is spotty.

No doubt, it's basically the same as where I grew up hunting for free but it would be cool to see the lodge and hunt there once. But I'll never get around to it. I would pay for a guide up north somewhere definitely on the bucket list.

I've been to Lubbock the last couple years on a goose/crane hunt. It's been great both times

I’ve had great experiences. Worth every penny. It makes more sense to take 5 guided hunts a year than to spend $10k on one blind that you’re stuck in for the year. These guys have dozens, some of them 100s of blinds brushed up ready to roll.

Went with red rock in Oklahoma this season. Was my first guided duck hunt and it was awesome. Those guys put in the work and found us birds to shoot everyday. Killed 5-6 man limits every day we were there. I’m ready to go back next year.

I know an excellent guide for divers in Wisconsin if you want to go. One of the best that I have used.

I know they have been struggling with big ducks, thought they were still holding good teal numbers. Regardless they are way more consistent than most other outfitters, or have been in years past.

That’s bullshite. They should have called their clients and told them to cancel. Simply too much money and not at least have mediocre success

Call Ben at Big Kansas Outdoors. I hunted with him in Kansas and Canada and was pleased.

Go to Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska.

You’ll kill ducks and get your money’s worth.

There are still tons of ducks on the Lake (esp Duck Lake that is off limits and part of the southern part of the NWR right there) and all around that area and in the ag fields and all of the rivers and little bayous all winding down to meet near Jonesville and Simmesport and south of there. The problem with the Lake is that there are SOOO many people out there on top of each other now and they are so pressured and many learn fast not to land or fly low in certain spots.

They still kill ducks at Honeybrake. But like I said, I just want to go to say I've been.

I agree though, a trip to Nebraska/the Dakotas/Kansas/Ok/etc. would be a sure thing. I really wanna make a Canadian trip. Had a buddy do it with his family and it sounded badass and they killed so many ducks. Are the limits different there or something? Bc they had a hell of a stack of big ducks and geese piled up, granted there were a good many hunters.
