TL;DR:

Brass has less failure, but steel does pretty well. Steel wears your barrel faster, but with the savings you can easily buy spare barrels.

If it is boxer primed, you can reload it. Wolf 55 grain .223 is boxer primed and I've reloaded a ton of it. And I see now that Wolf is selling some Berdan primers, so I guess you can reload some that is Berdan primed as well.

Oh, and just for clarification, the barrel wear in that torture test had noting to do with the steel cases, but rather the bi-metal bullets used in the Russian ammunition.

when they say prolonged use, they're talking about 20000+ rounds down the pipe, and even then wear is minimal.

i shoot steel without worry out of $3k 1911's and don't blink an eye

exactly, as much as i used to shoot, and it used to be an absolute shite ton, i don't own a pistol that has had more then 10k fired from it.

It has nothing to do with the casing but rather the bullets the Russians use.

I use steel all he time, not 10k rounds, but I've not seen any abnormal wear.
