I want to take the wife to a river for a decent kayak float. I'm looking for something with good, moving water, but not something that is going to be extremely difficult. I'm thinking tiki tubing style with kayaks.

There is a company that offers kayak rentals on the bogue chitto. I've done it twice in tubes, but you can also rent yaks to do it. Beautiful river and nowhere near as crowded as tiki tubing. Usually when you float it on a tube, you only see the people you went with.

Awesome, Thanks Coco. I didn't even think about the Bogue Chitto. I found the place you were talking about. I also found one in Tylertown that has some 13 and 18 mile trips. That's much longer than most of them I can find in LA.

Unless the water is REALLY moving, 13-18 miles in a day is going to be a chore. I would target something under 10.

From what I've been reading, the 13 mile is about 5-1/2 hours. Which is only 2.36 MPH. That's less than walking pace.

Granted I'm usually only kayaking to fish, but 2.36mph is WAY too fast to fish effectively. I know it doesn't seem like very fast, but that's moving pretty good. We usually stick to 1 mph.

haha, I agree. I don't plan to fish, just cruise and drink.

Do you and your wife have extensive kayaking experience? I would expect her to flip at least once if this is her first yak trip at that speed.

Yes, we both have quite a bit of experience. Mostly flatwater fishing, but we will be fine as long as there aren't rapids. Which there are not in the place we are going to go.

Bayous Bienvenue and St. John are also options, but I don't think you'll get any speed out of them
