Did you have to buy additional maps or were the basemaps enough? I'm looking at the Garmn 78sc which comes with more than just the basemap so hopefully if I go with that one I won't have to buy additional maps

The base map has been enough. Granted the land we know the land we hunt and fish like the back of our hand because we have had it for 10+ years now. But when we do go somewhere else, it is still pretty accurate.

-Got this one because it picks up weather channels and is also a 2 way radio

Whatever you get, make sure it's a Garmin of some sort. I worked in marine retail all through college and Garmin is by far the most user friendly with the best customer service. My personal hunting GPS is a GPSmap76Cx, can download maps from the disc or just insert the little micro chip.

We have a Lowrance HDS-8 with insight maps. Works like a champ & is very detailed.
