But many of these suggestions are about stretching the boots.

I gave up km Red Wings. My last fiasco was that I bought a pair, a week later they were cracked. Traded in for a new pair, a week later they were cracked. I was having to oil them daily, and they still did it. These were US made ones also.

Have had Justins for a while now with zero problems

Coat the trouble area with kroil. let it soak... put them in the oven (rod oven at work or outdoor oven in your shop at home) and bake them at 250 for 30-40 min. softens that back piece right up... I also have to push the ankles out in my new boots so I put a 4 lb maul head turned sideways in there while they bake but it doesn't sound like that is neccessary for your particular application.

With old black leather combat boots, the tried and true was "fill with hot water, put on thick socks and walk them dry" and seemed to speed up the process of breaking them in for about a week.

Modern boots seem more compliant, but it is also important to get the correct size.

That said, other than correct sizing (and good socks), wearing them to break them in is about the only way get past the blister phase.

Sorry.

I always wear two pair of socks until boots are broken in good. It works in preventing blisters. I think it lets one sock rug against the other.

Whatever you do, don't do this, it will cause the boot to form to a different size of your foot. This almost always lead to heel slippage.
