I have a go devil long tail with an 18hp Briggs Vanguard twin that i'm likely selling. I've searched on craigslist and Louisiana Sportsman and have seen the frames only with asking prices as much as $500. Was wondering if anyone on the OB is familiar with the frame values? It's (the frame/shaft/prop)in good shape and the engine problem is likely a head gasket or scored cylinder (had oil spew into the airbox recently after having the carb totally rebuilt).

I don't have the mechanical ability to troubleshoot these issues and will likely either use pirogue or buy a small engine as the go devil really isn't needed where i hunt.

Any help is appreciated. TIA

$150 Really? From experience or just your gut feeling?

Seems that the guys on mud motor forums think pretty highly of the go devil design and apparently that is the most difficult part to master when they build a do it yourself setup.

Thanks for the input.

I bought one complete with a 24 hp that needed a new prop. Paid $500 and it ran great. New prop was $150. Go Devil is a PITA to deal with and they wouldn't sell a new prop to me bc I was not the original owner.

If the frame, bears and prop is good, $200 would be a fair price. Motors is were all the money is.

They are similar to nazis with parts. You have to have the person you bought from contact godevil and tell them of the transfer.

I think the point is to keep folks from buying gd parts for knockoff/home built motors and stolen motors.

Yeah that is part of the reason i thought there might be some value left to the frame, since GD monitors parts thereby discouraging home-builds.

ETA...i'm not the original purchaser of the engine directly from GD, but i've never had a problem buying parts from an authorized dealer. They do require the GD serial number though.

Does the frame have the newer stainless bearing and seal caps or the old style? I'd say a complete lower end with good bushings, prop that's not stuck on the shaft and a good shaft is worth $500. A shaft, seals and new prop for a 23hp cost me around $400 from GD.

I think it is old style since it is basically a nut. I think i know what you're talking about when you mention the "seal caps". I had the seals changed about a year ago and have had no problems with them or the shaft. I may just list it on La. Sportsman for $400.

Someone with some mechanical know how could probably repair the engine or replace the engine with one of those harbor freight honda knock-offs and get a pretty good rig. Unfortunately I don't have those mechanical skills...lol.
