Getting something to grow on the side of a hill

I live on the river and just put some large chunks of broken up asphalt and concrete on my bank to keep from washing. I then put topsoil over all of that. What kind of grass would come up quick to get some structure on it? It doesn't have to be pretty

Go buy a few flats of monkey grass. Gets thick and isn't too expensive. Roots deeper than most grasses.

on construction sites, they generally seed the area with grass and cover with hay to keep the moisture in while it sprouts.
