Getting an old mount refurbished

What options are out there to get an older deer mount refurbished? Do you basically have to take it back to taxidermist and hope he can get you a new cape? Can the form be re-used? Is there some other method to bring the color back on the original mount?
Have a mount from the biggest deer I ever killed that is showing some age and is not the best mount job anyway. Won a big buck contest where the mount was paid for so I didn't get to choose the taxidermist. Would like to look at getting it reworked eventually
Can't really tell by the picture that much but it is starting to yellow a bit from when it was new and like I said, I'm not a huge fan of the mount in general. The picture is from about 5 years ago but this mount is 20 years old and it's faded a bit even since this picture was taken

Bump. Somebody out there is bound to have done something to an old mount to give it new life!

You can saw the antlers off and bring to a taxidermist to put on a new form. You'll need a new cape, so either go kill another buck and use his, or ask the taxidermist if he has one. He'll charge for all of this though, so get ready.
You should post back here on Saturday and Sunday evenings around 6pm when everyone else is dragging their bucks out of a truck at the skinning shed. Someone here might donate you a cape. You'd have to pick it up and drop off at a taxidermist for him to skin it out though.
Where are you located?

That's kinda what I was thinking would be my only option (re-mount).
Was hoping there was some cleaning method to just brightening him up a bit and restore the hair color some at a lesser cost.

I dont think you would need to saw the antlers off. They're just glued and screwed to the foam. Most taxidermists can get you a new cape for cheap. My guy can do it for $25 and them you just have to pay for the mount

Bump for the evening crew...any ideas besides a re-mount?

Didn't mean to imply sawing them off separately. Meant just getting them off that form

You might test a spot with some Grecian formula... You never know!

quote:i had one refurbished 2 years ago. it was one that my dad killed in 1974. i brought the entire mount to a taxidermist he had to get a new cape and basically start like it was a new mount. he could only save the horns, panel and name tag.
